  • How to activate your Windows O.S. on your M-Tech computer.
Activate Windows using a product key

A product key is a 25-character code, that looks like this:

PRODUCT KEY: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
To find your product key, turn your laptop upside down. Look for a label on the bottom of the laptop. Your product key may be partially covered by a scratch-off coating. Gently scratch off this coating to reveal the full product key.

During installation, you'll be prompted to enter a product key.  Or, after installation*, to enter the product key, select the Start  button, and then select Settings  > Update & Security  > Activation  > Change product key.
*While you can delay the activation of Windows, doing so may lead to hardware issues. Your laptop cannot be fully set up until it has been activated and you have logged into your Microsoft account.

  • Copilot. Do you feel Copilot AI is slowing you down too much or feel the invasive nature of the AI is not for you? Here is a quick way to remove its presence. Keep in mind this uses the registry editor. So mistakes made in the registry editor can cripple your computer. If you are confident in this procedure, stop and move on to some of the safer methods.

To remove Copilot using the Registry Editor, you can use any edition of Windows 11. To access the Registry Editor, type 'regedit' in the Start menu or the Run command and hit Enter. Then, navigate to the following key using the left panel:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. On the right-side pane, right-click on an empty space and select ‘New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it "ShowCopilotButton" and set its value data to 0. Then, click OK.

This will hide the Copilot button from the taskbar and disable its functionality. Here is the reference link below credit goes to : https://answers.microsoft.com/windows/forum/all/how-to-uninstall-copilot-i-dont-want-to-disable-it/b301b77d-b879-4433-9979-f8795805e9f1

Credit for this information and additional help can be found by searching with key word phrases on Bing. Here is how we found this information: https://www.bing.com/. We searched for "how to remove AI from Office 365 permanently." Similar phrases are likely to yield the same content.

The lesson here is that you too can be an expert and solve many problems simply by asking Bing or Google your questions. Give it a try!

*We have also utilized the removal method that recently became available now that Copilot is listed as a program.

In your search bar, type 'Add or remove programs.' Choose this option in Settings and scroll down until you find Copilot. Select it and choose 'Uninstall.'

*If you want to remove Copilot from Edge (though we often utilize this AI, with much of this page being created with the help of Copilot and Grammarly AI), you can go to the ellipsis (...) in the upper right corner, click it, and select the settings gear icon. Then, on the left-hand side of that page, there should be an option for Copilot and Sidebar. Open this and turn off Copilot.

Lastly, here is a perspective from M-Tech regarding AI and Copilot specifically. M-Tech, as mentioned, utilizes Copilot and other AI tools. So, we don't necessarily view AI as negative. However, it's important to recognize that all your information becomes accessible to AI and is sent over the internet to the servers that support it. Therefore, if you have confidential information, it may be wise to turn off AI. If you're uncertain, you could disconnect from the internet except for updates. I know, it sounds radical, right? Not always being on the internet. But to us at M-Tech, it's a significant way to speed up your computer and lock down your privacy..
Copilot can slow down your computer considerably. Essentially, your computer's speed becomes limited to the performance of the Microsoft servers and your internet connection. Thus, disabling any onboard AI programs is a very real way to regain performance. If you're connected to the internet, you might want to consider using AI for its benefits; however, if you prioritize speed and privacy, turning off AI may be your best option.
